Abuse and Takedown Policy
How to report a name that breaks the law or our rules, and what we do about it.
Reporting a name
Tell us the name, what is wrong with it, and where you saw it. Phishing, malware, impersonation, illegal content, harassment, and content that infringes your rights are all reportable.
Email the address on the Contact page. Include your contact details so we can reply. We keep a reporter’s email only as long as the report is open and remove it when the report is closed or your account is deleted.
What we do
- We acknowledge a report within 24 hours and aim to decide within 15 days.
- Dangerous content, such as phishing and malware, is acted on first, often by suspending the name before the review is complete.
- We may warn the owner, park or suspend the name, or close the account. Repeated or serious abuse costs Trust Points and can lead to a permanent ban.
- The owner is told why and can appeal; the grievance contact on the Contact page handles appeals.
- Reports made in bad faith cost the reporter Trust Points.
Orders from courts and authorities
We act on a valid order of a court of competent jurisdiction, or a notice from the appropriate government authority, within the time the law requires. We only share account data with an authority when the law obliges us to.
Copyright and brand complaints
Tell us what work or mark is infringed, who owns it, and where the infringing name is. We forward the complaint to the name’s owner and can suspend the name while it is looked at. We cannot decide ownership disputes; those go to the courts.
