About Namestead

Free names for developers, on domains the community pays for.

What Namestead is

Namestead gives developers a free, memorable address such as yourname.devportfolio.com. You can point it at your portfolio, a project, a redirect or a parked page. The domains it offers are a curated catalog, chosen with the community and paid for by contributions.

Anyone can ask for a domain to be added, and signed-in users vote on a public leaderboard. A person reviews every domain against a written acceptance policy before it is bought.

Who runs it

Namestead is built and operated by Sushil Kumar, from India. Namestead is an independently operated project owned and maintained by Sushil Kumar. It is not a registered nonprofit, NGO, charitable trust, society or Section 8 company.

Because the project is funded in public, it publishes its books: every contribution and every expense is on the public ledger, and a transparency report is published each quarter.

What we sell

Nothing. Names are free. The only money Namestead takes is voluntary contributions, described on the Contribution Policy page, and nothing is delivered in exchange for a contribution except recognition inside the project.
